The Primary Purpose of Major Project Support at RioTinto Alcan (RTA-MPS) is to focus on end to end Project services support in Engineering, Project Controls, Health, Safety & Environment, Commissioning and Hand Over, Continuous Improvement and Procurement. Working within the RioTinto Project Procurement (RTPP) group which is based in Brisbane, Australia, this position is assigned as part of the Montreal based Project Procurement Group supporting RioTinto Alcan (RTA) and Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC): This role has responsibility to provide support to team in instilling Project Governance Procedures, and Owner's Team Procurement Procedures as well as overseeing the EPCM Procurement Team in their application of adequate Procurement Procedures and manpower as well as reviewing that the EPCM have properly preparing contracts and variation agreements, managing suppliers during contract negotiation, and implementing and managing contracts for BU's over time. Accountabilities:
Review and assist in the creation and collating of contracts, scopes of work, etc.
Consult with Sourcing Specialists and Analysts as well as legal representatives regarding contracts, scopes of work, tender documents, etc.
Assist in contract language and fall back positions creation
Increase contracts language competencies of Sourcing Specialists and Analysts through training and consultation
Review and participate in Claims and dispute negotiations
Guide EPCM procurement through applicable contract execution processes and requirements
Work on problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth contract organization and language knowledge
Escalate legal issues to RTA Legal when necessary
Seek out appropriate help from RTA Legal in obtaining problem resolutions
Assist in process improvement
Act independently and proactively to recommend methods and procedures for improvement opportunities
Key Relationships:
This role requires frequent interaction with co-workers within Rio Tinto Project Procurement and the RTA Major Project Support & Execution Departments

This role requires interaction with Rio Tinto Group Risk Management
This position has direct financial impacts to RTA and the RTA Major Project Execution Project Directors and the wider RTPP Group. The Senior Contract Administrator must have the ability to negotiate and write sound contracts that add value to the individual Projects and RTPP. Additionally, this Position will have a role in the training and development of RTPP Team members.
Qualifications:
P.Eng in Civil or Mechanical Engineering is preferred and at minimum a Bachelors Degree or equivalent education/experience
Major Construction Project Experience
Claims management experience
Dispute Resolution and arbitration experience
Experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating Contract Terms and Conditions and their amendment
Experience with drafting or reviewing scopes of work
Contract management experience
Fluency in English is required
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Good document and contract drafting skills
Good negotiation skills
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, decision making and time management skills
May require frequent travel. Some travel may be for extended periods of time.
